My philosophy in nursing is that it is important for one to carry their personal, moral, ethical values with them at all times. Nurses have a duty to serve the community to deliver a harmless, holistic, patient-centered care. Patients should be treated fairly and equally according to their cultural customs. They should all be cared for regardless of whether they are rich or poor; as long as a patient requires medical services, they should be attended without any prejudice. Patients are human beings and not just a room number or medical conditions. Regardless of what the doctors may have said about the imminent death of a patient, it is important that they are well-taken care of. They may require the much needed care for them to regain their health and do not need to be abandoned since they have been declared to be dying. The environment within which a nurse works varies from place to place. A nurse may work in a hospital; take care of a sick patient from home or even at a facility of special care. The bottom line is that nurses should take care of patients and provide a comfortable environment for all patients to get better. Nurses must strive to enforce an optimistic, well and positive behavior in their personal lives in the belief that they will provide superior care for others if they care for themselves first. The patient should be treated as a whole person. Taking care of the patient mind and body is considered holistic nursing. This means that there should be tailor made care for all the patient's no matter what their race are. Indeed, this is very noble as every patient should be cared for in a manner that suits them and that may be a solution for faster healing. Providing care to patients is the main concentration for nursing and therefore should be the ultimate goal for all the nursing professionals. Different people have different ways of perceiving things. Therefore a good nurse should be able to understand their patients at a very personal level to ensure that they do what is best for them. What is most important for the patient's is that they are understood. Leininger is known as the Transcultural caring theorists. She believes that cultural competence is important in nursing because everyone is not the same and as a nurse one will encounter different beliefs and cultures. Each person should be viewed as unique and may need different care based on their condition and their culture. The Franciscan values are compassion, reverence, diversity, peace, respect, service and joy. A nurse enforces and do these daily values on a daily basis. A good nurse is a compassionate individual and will work with many different culture.
