I have involved in Psychology research via PSYC 397 since Fall 2016, with Dr. Jasmine Abrams as my supervising faculty member. As a research assistant in the Global Community Health Promotion Network I have helped with research studies and interventions centered around HIV/AIDs and Cardiovascular disease, specifically focusing on minority women. My work involves collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative sexual health data, completing literature searches, and compiling psychological assessments. I also had a role in culturally adapting an HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis which was presented to a community partner in the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Active Minds is an organization that serves to raise mental health awareness in the UMBC community and erase the stigma surrounding mental illness. After one year of actively participating in meeting, events and fundraisers, I was elected Secretary. As secretary, I have been involved in running meetings, planning events and collaboration with other student organizations. I am also a member of UMBC's Pre-Nursing Society. Since the Fall 2016 semester, I have served as a peer mentor for incoming pre-nursing students giving advice on everything from campus involvement to nursing school application essays. During my time at UMBC, I have had several opportunities volunteer in the greater Baltimore area through organizations such as American Red Cross Club and Destination H.O.M.E. I have also very active in my community through my church’s community outreach programs for several years. I have recently become a part of the Health and Wellness committee where I plan to utilize concepts I have learned in health and community psychology courses as well as my leadership experiences in student organizations to promote all aspects of health and
