Because innovation is at the core of OSU’s cancer research team, I am hoping to take advantage of this opportunity by expanding the work I have been doing in cancer research. Preventative and tertiary research will give me a much broader grasp of the resources needed to provide the best practice possible for those under my care. In a society consumed by a “fix-it” mentality, I do not want to be caught in a practice herding patients in-and-out of the office, treating them simply as a diagnosis instead of actual, unique beings. Cultivating healing relationships and keeping current with the literature will increase my effectiveness in working with every day, underserved people. Being able to empathize with each person’s background and understand the personal struggles that have molded them will help me to implement a creative care plan that greatly improves each patient’s social, physical, and emotional well-being.
