Roles and purpose of organizations American Nurses Association (ANA) ANA also known as the American Nurses Association is consider to be one of the loudest voices for Registered Nurses today. ANA has been around since before 1911. ANA represents all Registered Nurses today and makes sure that there is an adequate amount of nurses that are highly skilled and well educated. They not only make sure that the healthcare system is getting the most up to date and accurate skilled nurses, they are a true advocate for nurses in the work place as well as the general public. ANA has made their standards high for practicing nursing to improve the overall health care.
When I began my journey in search for a secondary education that would fulfill my desires I did not know where to begin, but I did know one thing: I wanted to get out of state. I was ignorant and believed that I was too good for the state from which I was raised in; I wanted to leave everything behind and see what the world had to offer. I kept this mindset for months upon months until my worrying parents finally managed to coax me into looking within Illinois for my education--it is at this point where I would stumble upon Illinois State University. I had heard multiple friends express their interest in ISU many of whom would call dub it their dream school. By researching ISU further, all of my misconceptions about in-state schools were dispelled.
Nurse Practitioner are registered Nurses who serve as primary and specialty health care providers under a physician. Much like a geriatrician, Gerontological Nurse Practitioners work with elderly patients, diagnosing illness, conducting exams, and prescribing medication. (“Geriatric Nurse…”). These type of nurses work at nursing homes, with home healthcare services and in hospice facilities, or run your own private practice. A geriatric nurse work with finding illnesses and diseases, prescribing medication and therapy, routine check-ups and screenings, etc…etc.
Nevertheless, I applied to the University of Texas at Arlington’s nursing program and was accepted in Fall 2014. That opened the doors to countless opportunities for me to find my spark. Through my lectures and clinical rotations, I was taught that being a nurse meant ensuring the safety of every patient and working arduously to maintain their quality of life. With that principle in mind, I practiced my skill as a nursing student on every unit that I was assigned to.
Many nurses do not get involved in health care policy even though the nurse should. Most nurses do not know much about health care policies, some view it as “foreign and complex” (Falk, 2014, p. 203). I consider myself one of the nurses that do not know much about health care policy and I am one of the nurses that do not get involved in health care policy. I do not get involved with health care policy because I was never taught about it, so I do not want to get involved in something that I do not know much about. I look forward to learn more about health policies and becoming more involved in health policies.
In accordance to the Camden Academy Charter High School National Honor Society application process I will be writing an essay based on the four pillars of the National Honor Society Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service and how they apply to me. Scholarship applies to me mostly through my scholastic work ethic, I am primarily intimating around my transition from sophomore year to junior year. When I first entered the CACHS school system I started out just like any other kid with regular classes and everything. Then around the final week of my sophomore year my teachers started coming to me talking about taking advanced courses for my junior year a topic I didn’t really think much about. I chose to pursue the teaching field because of my experience training new nurses and C.N.A.’s at the nursing home I previously worked at. There were students that would come to observe and learn the procedures and skills needed to work in a nursing home. My bosses knew to send them to me because they saw the passion I had for teaching skills in the nursing field. So when I knew that I was going to have those students, I became overjoyed because I knew that as they learned, I was actually making a difference in their careers in the medical field. The passion for teaching began early for me in life.
After the sudden loss of my oldest brother in 2011, my life changed in the blink of an eye. While trying to overcome this heartbreaking experience was one of the most challenging things ever faced with, his death soon turned into a true inspiration to me. Not only do I cherish all the memories I was able to share with him over the years, I soon came to realization that tomorrow is not a promise to anyone and to live life to the fullest. With this being said, having the opportunity to have an impact on someone everyday whether through communication, actions and/or attitude to help heal is something very powerful to me. Through this course of health professional education we took many topics whish are related to our life in general and in college in specificity. However, the most common that four that I enjoyed and learned from a lot are time management, E-learning, and leadership skills. What I learned from time management is the skills to how to manage my time effectively in many useful ways that has made my life more productive. Also I learnt how to achieve my goals in less time using some good technics such as 20-80 rule. Another thing that I knew is time management stages and it is arrangement which also helped me to achieve all my goals.
As a first generation student to attend college from a family of seven, the journey to a higher education has been arduous and overwhelming. My family gives me all the encouragement I need and are very optimistic about pursuing a higher degree. Unlike myself, my parents did not have the opportunity to attend college. My parents were born and raised in a small town in Mexico where the highest level of education they received was fifth grade. I have worked since I was 14 years old to support my parents with bills, and also saving for college and my own vehicle.
Pursuing knowledge is one of the most important parts of one person’s life. This is the belief I hold for a long time. In my mind, learning is a journey during which you can find something new and valuable. After the journey, when you look back, you will find that you have seen so many beautiful scenes you would not imagine before. Currently, I am an undergraduate student in fire protection and safety technology engineering department in Oklahoma State University.
What does nursing mean to me? Nursing means helping people heal, meeting their needs while they are in your care, listening to concerns, protecting them from harm, and educating them how to care for themselves while treating them with dignity, compassion and respect. Nursing is giving of yourself to the care of people and community, while expecting nothing in return. It is having compassion for people and their health, being a humanitarian, and making sure patients receive the best care possible. Nurses must also deal with families of patients with gentleness and kindness, realizing they are going through a stressful situation also.
The decision to become a nurse was not a life-long calling for me. I did not know from a young age that when I grew up I wanted to be a nurse. It took years of life experiences and well-timed events that propelled me to this point. While reflecting on the media file “One is too many” (CNO, College of Nurses of Ontario, 2005) I had the opportunity to reflect on the reason I chose to be a nurse while observing the behaviors of the character portrayed and was brought back to a personal experience I had when visiting hospitals as a patient.
As a child, I dreamed of acquiring a career in Nursing. I was always fascinated by the amount of respect that nurses received during my doctor visits throughout my childhood. There are many reasons why I chose to major in Nursing such as the ability to take care of someone, the money and benefits that the career offered, as well as job stability and flexibility. On of my main reasons for pursing Nursing is the ability to care for someone other than myself.
Importance of nurses A nurse is a health care professional who is engaged in the practice of nursing. Nurses are men and women who are responsible (along with other health care professionals) for the treatment, safety and recovery of acutely or chronically ill or injured people, health maintenance of the healthy, and treatment of life-threatening emergencies in a wide range of health care settings. Nurses may also be involved in medical and nursing research and perform a wide range of non-clinical functions necessary to the delivery of health care. Nurses develop a plan of care, sometimes working collaboratively with physicians, therapists, the patient, the patient 's family and other team members.
