Pursuing A Master Degree At Oklahoma State University

Pursuing knowledge is one of the most important parts of one person’s life. This is the belief I hold for a long time. In my mind, learning is a journey during which you can find something new and valuable. After the journey, when you look back, you will find that you have seen so many beautiful scenes you would not imagine before. Currently, I am an undergraduate student in fire protection and safety technology engineering department in Oklahoma State University. Before that, I was an undergraduate student in Southwest Jiaotong University in China, and I majored in fire protection engineering there. For spring semester of 2015, I got the chance to study as an exchange student in Oklahoma State University financed by the China Scholarship Council.

These help me to form a knowledgeable base for future learning. Math is the basic course for engineering major. Many principles in engineering field can be described in mathematics ways. Physics and chemistry courses are important science courses for fire protection students. Fire protection is a combined discipline which crosses different subjects. Only can solid knowledge help me to understand more. To learn these pre-professional courses, I took efforts on them. At first, I had some trouble in calculus because I could not solve problems very well, and I did not understand the theory of relativity as well. However, after practicing over one semester, I became familiar with these principles and received all good grades for these courses. I found that taking efforts in smart way can give something to people. When I first started learning chemistry of organic compounds, people told me that it was a very difficult course. However, I did not believe it. I managed my time and energy to work on the course and the course material. For almost every exam, I got grades near 100%. With the

I learnt a lot there. I want to further my education and pursue a master’s degree of fire protection in OSU. As far as I know, the master degree of fire safety and explosion protection can provide students wide knowledge about fire and safety field. The cores of this degree are related to risk analysis, modeling, and explosion, which I am really interested in. I think I can get much more knowledge from this degree than any other universities. I want to choose the thesis option, and do research to earn more experience with the help of an advisor. Dr. Sam Wang is the expert in fire protection field. If I can be a student of his, I believe I will learn a lot. Though next semester is my last semester for my bachelor’s degree, I want to spend every day efficiently. For my short-term plan, I want to study better for next semester’s courses, which are also important part of professional classes of my major. At the same time, I will try to learn FDS. I want to decide my thesis as soon as possible, so then I can work on it quickly. For my long-term plan, abilities to learn are the key for all periods’ learning. I would like to strengthen my abilities to learn, study, and research to make preparation for my future Ph.D degree.
