Obesity is one of Americas leading health problems. Evidence shows that every 2 in 3 adults in the United States are overweight or considered to have obesity and 1 in 6 children are obese (“Overweight and Obesity Statics”). People are overweight when their BMI (body mass index) is about 25 pounds over their average weight, and they are obese when it gets over 30 pounds. This lifestyle is considered just a weight problem to many, however, obesity can lead to chronic disease and even death. This problem is not declining soon. On other hand, we can help improve some of the reasons people are becoming obese. If we increase physical exercise, cut out unhealthy foods, and learn the right way to eat, then it is less likely that people will become obese or overweight. …show more content…
Almost all states in the U.S are required to have physical education at least for 30 minutes a day. However, forty percent of schools only require P.E to be 2 to 3 days a week, even if that (“Many Schools Skipping Some PE Classes, despite the Law”). If it was required to have physical education five days a week for thirty minutes, then this would mean students would be able to get their exercise in for the week without cutting into classroom time. One study was experimented on fifth grades. The fifth graders P.E time was increased to five days a week, then their BMI was compared to earlier data, indicating that if P.E time was increased, the students were less likely to obesity (“The Impact of Physical Education on Obesity among Elementary School Children”). Educating students on the importance of making time throughout the week to exercise will increase the chances of them exercising when they become adults. Not only will this benefit the children, but it may also set an example to their parents. If the parents see their children exercising daily, then they may start to exercise, too. Which means, the whole family would become healthier
