My fellow Americans, it has come to my attention that we are facing a new epidemic in our country. An epidemic of obesity is rising steadily in our country but it is possible to prevent this. Obesity is an important public health concern in America right now. Obesity is a hard thing to go through. You feel stuck like you can't do anything about your weight but, I'm here to tell you we can change, we can become the best versions of ourselves, and become healthy. It will be hard at first but as a nation, we must become healthy for our friends and family. Did you know the CDC states that obesity rates in the United States have been steadily increasing for the past several decades, with approximately 42.4% of American adults considered obese as of 2020¨. This fact is scary. The consequences of obesity are severe, as it increases the risk of developing chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers. I will educate the American people about the causes and consequences of obesity in America and some possible solutions to combat this epidemic.

These diseases can lead to disability, reduced quality of life, and premature death. These premature deaths and health problems can be prevented if we all agree to pursue a healthy lifestyle. Obesity also has a significant effect on the healthcare system, as it is associated with higher healthcare costs and increased hospitalizations. In the CDC website, it stated ¨The estimated annual medical cost of obesity in the United States was nearly $147 billion dollars this year. Medical costs for adults who had obesity were $1,861 higher than medical costs for people with healthy weight¨.
