Introduction

Jewelry has been in use since the ancient days to perform several duties such as magical protection and esthetics. Since time immemorial, they have been carved from animal shells, precious stones as well as animal bones. They also symbolized status in society. The most sophisticated were a preserve of the rich and those who had higher social status like the ruling class. Discovery of metal work added a lot into the development of jewelry. In addition to the other items that were used to model jewelry, metals were also curved into these arts of sophistication and status. Gold, was a major component of the artwork.

Her love for jewelry was seen by the fact that she used to design them herself gave always as gift to others and most of all wore them. Her reign was during the period of industrial revolution which was a period characterized by mass production of goods and it was during this time that her jewelry gained a lot of popularity in united kingdom as well as beyond her borders. The fact that she made them affiliated to her royalty made them more and more prestigious. Her passion for her jewelry developed an age in Europe, one of art as well as craft that were inspired by the queen. She influenced most jewelers and even enhanced the jewelry trade in during her reign. This is expressed by the use of one metal dominating throughout in the composition of the metal. Most of it is designed with silver. Only the middle part has inscriptions done using other jewelry materials like marble. The frame enclosing the plate on which the inscriptions have been made is of silver material as shown by the silvery color it is painted with. This gives the piece a lot of composition quality that makes it quite expensive. Jewelry with silver for the royal family was very conspicuous, and it was used in abundance to make the jewels of higher quality. This showed the economic status of these aristocratic societies. Furthermore, the jewels incorporated more metals that characterized them to be very expensive. The necklace is a classical design that was meant to best fit those people who could not afford more conspicuous designs involving precious metals hence costly. This was contrary to the characteristic of Victorian jewels where they used a lot of metals with the slogan that more is quality.

Another characteristic of this necklace is the use of flora as inspirational arts on jewelry (The Romantic age, 2014). This is seen by inscriptions of flowers and fruits on the necklace plate which is meant most specifically to describe the theme of romance in the simplest way possible.
