decide to observe a child in my class named Jacob because I noticed that he did not take an active part in activities. Therefore using the following methods anecdotal record, running record, time sampling, event sampling and checklist I observed Jacob. The first day I use anecdotal recording. The time was 9:30-9:45 am, location snack time. Jacob could not open his fruit container and sat there for five minutes before the other teacher opened it for him.
The second observation was done two days later between 11:50 am and 12:10pm using time sampling. It was during the lunch period. Jacob had finish eaten when he approached the swing. It had a seat for two children to swing on. Israel sat on it then asked Jacob to come and swing with him. Jacob just look down and walked away and went and sat on a chair. At 12:00 Sarah approach Jacob and as Him to play he shook his head. At 12:10 Jacob stood up and walked inside and went to his chair and sat down. These methods help me assess if Jacob social development is appropriate for his age and what I can do to encourage him to overcome his shyness. To help him improve in this area I can have him help me share out the worksheet or crayons. Through observation I found out his interest so there for I use this to get him to participate in activities. I also observe him to see if he responded to any child. So I encourage Sara to sit with him during center time. I was able to assess what he likes or dislike, his response to his peers, in general his personality. One activity I did was based on my observation of Jacob, because I know he like sheep. So on this day I did animal sounds each child was given an animal to portray. I gave Jacob a sheep.
