One minute without oxygen, brain cells begin to die, but survival is possible. Three minutes without oxygen the brain is likely to suffer from serious brain damage. Then ten minutes in many brain cells have died and the patient is not likely to recover. When one has ceased to breathe for fifteen minutes it is almost impossible for that patient to recover and the loss of oxygen will most likely results in death. The ocean absorbs nearly one-third of all CO2 emissions produced by humans. Therefore the human's need for oxygen and the ocean's ability to clean the air makes them a necessity.
