We know some things about Oetzi the Iceman. He was killed in the Alps about 5,300 years ago. He ate a meal soon before he died. However, we don’t know why Oetzi was killed. Was he killed in a battle? Was he killed while hunting? We don’t know the answer, but we have theories to why Oetzi was murdered. According to the evidence given, the reason Oetzi died most likely was death in a fight. Oetzi was a man from the end of the stone age and the beginning of the copper age. He was in his 40s and was a little over five feet tall. He carried with him a knife, unfinished arrows, a backpack, and more gear up a mountain in the alps. The most valuable item he carried was a copper axe. The axe Oetzi carried was advanced for its day, since tools back then were mainly stone. Oetzi also “carried” food in his stomach. The food had been eaten soon before he died, an hour at most. There was einkorn and ibex meat inside of his stomach (Breadar, John, and Paula S. Apsell). The food and other items, including Oetzi, were in good condition for being about 5,300 years old. …show more content…

These injuries show that he was fighting before his death, probably due to clan warfare. Adding the arrowhead in the back, Oetzi had been in a tough fight. He would have most likely won a fight and tried to get away, but was chased down by others who survived, who shot Oetzi in the back. Oetzi was shot from about a 30 yard distance, so his killer wasn’t very close to Oetzi when he was
