In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck two brother like men, Lennie and George, take off looking for a job to come up with the financial help for their life long dream of owning a small farm and food plot. They soon find themselves in california, on the banks of the Salinas River cussing and cursing at the old bus driver who had dropped them off miles away from their desired destination. They go to the ranch and end up meeting the workers, Candy, Slim, Carlson, Curley, the boss, and Curley’s wife. Curley’s wife Flirts with all of the workers which makes Curley mad and wanting to pick fights with everyone. Curley ends up getting into a quarrel with Lennie, who then destroys his hand. Then Curley’s wife figures out that he had gotten into a fight and with a little investigating finds out it was Lennie. This then leads to Lennie in the barn finding his new puppy dead. Curley’s wife sneaks in on him and talks to him about how she could have went with the shows. “He says i could go with that show.” (Steinbeck 88) Then this leads to lennie touching her hair with her permission and soon he pets too hard. He was such a good friend to Lennie he didn’t want to see Lennie rot away in a jail cell or to be shot by another person. He wanted it to be him to do it since he was his responsibility and even though he didn’t admit it, George loved Lennie just like he was family. “George shook himself again. “No,” he said. “I want you to stay with me here.” (Steinbeck 104) This was the moment right before George took Lennie’s life. He had said this after Lennie said he was going to go off and find a cave if george wanted him to. But George loved him too much to let him do that.
