Classification does not determine the idea of real power, it’s just a way people perceive of you. In the novel,“ Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck, there are characters that are classified by their strengths and weaknesses. Every character in the novel has something they wish they could change in a sense. The author emphasizes a lot about how Lennie is physically strong and is able to keep the momentum going , while George is the one with the intellectual mind. Moreover, the weak are people that do not really have strength in something and the strong people are able to do something efficiently. Some people believe that real power is based on popularity, athletics, and intelligence, while others believe that real power vary based on strengths/weakness and labels should not be looked at as everything.

If they choose to idealistically change themselves and/or make a broad impact, they are powerful. In the novel, George was taking care of Lennie while Lennie is able to lift huge pounds just for a farm. They both partake in different attributes that make them powerful. Everyone in the novel is distinctive in their own way. In the novel it says, “We know what we got, and we don't care whether you know it or not” (Steinbeck 45). All of the characters have a weakness, especially coordinated by their hands. Candy does not even have a hand, Curley can not pleasure his wife because his hand got smashed by lennies uncontrollable rage, and George’s hand is small and dainty. Even though the characters in this book all have weaknesses, they still have something they are skilled at. Candy works on the farm like a boss and Curley’s wife is good at dressing herself up and never second guessing her actions because she knows what she wants. For that reason, what people think of them isn't everything about
