Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is set during the Great Depression, is heartwarming and heart breaking. The main characters, George and Lennie, are two very good friends who want to help keep each other out of trouble and they would do anything to do that. Lennie relies on George to keep him safe and protected while George is the leader of their friendship. Lennie always gets in trouble for things that he doesn’t even realize he’s doing. The two friends are on the lookout for their dream, their future, and their happiness. At one point in the story, George gets angry with Lennie and threatens to leave him by himself. Although Lennie can be a pain sometimes, he still deserves a companion to help him when he needs him most. Lennie needs someone to care for him, he needs someone to socialize with, and most importantly, he needs someone to keep him out of trouble. …show more content…

He would not be able to survive on his own, and wouldn’t be able to stay out of jail. Lennie has a disability and others do not realize it. Once in the story, Lennie got caught petting this little girl's dress and when she felt him reach for it she screamed and Lennie snatched ahold of the dress and wouldn’t let go. George helped get Lennie out of this situation by having him hide away from the people looking to kill him. George needs to stay with Lennie so situations like this don’t happen on a regular basis. George has helped Lennie find a hiding place in case of an emergency in which Lennie might be killed and that is the reason he should stay with
