Empathy Equals Laziness What is the definition of empathy? According to Oxford Languages the definition of empathy is “The ability to understand and share the feelings of another.” but in our honest opinion is there really such a thing as empathy in our justice system? Or is it just an objective spruced up by the people in lower society? There are many ways you can understand empathy regarding the injustices of our world. This article speaks about how our world needs to change before we get worse. The Gabby Petito case was so popular that many Native American missing persons reports were overlooked according to both articles “Missing White Women Syndrome” and “Media Fascination With The Petito Mystery Looks Like Racism To Some Native Americans” by Kamila Kudelska both covering how racist people are due to the overbearing amount of people being swept under the rug due to higher levels of authority feeling others are less important then Gabby. The main lesson to take away from this is that no matter what a person is a person. No matter size, gender, color of skin, American or not, College educated or trade school. Though to most, many may say this is minuscule compared to these huge injustices. The big injustices were once small ones such as injustices in education. According to the Bored Teachers Podcast, many teachers are leaving for several reasons. Lack of support, low pay, unfair expectations, mental health issues, and inhumane conditions. Educators are struggling since the pandemic the students are still three years behind in their education. Which causes them to have to meet yet another unfair expectation to catch their students up to standards. Taking this time to catch students up is causing them to have another reason to feel overwhelmed and overworked A teacher should not have to have three people's workload and still get the same amount of expectations done for each group of students. I have interviewed multiple teachers in and out of the classroom about the difficulties of being an educator in today's society. I asked them all the same question, “What are your personal difficulties of being a teacher?” The first teacher who answered said her mental health was the worst part and working a high-maintenance job didn't help. She also said the amount of backlash she got from her administration about student problems that weren't her responsibility being blamed on her because “She should have known better” and “She shouldn't discipline a student after they have broken the student handbook multiple times” Is ridiculous how
