I read Off to Class: Incredible and Unusual Schools Around the World by Susan Hughes. I really enjoyed reading this book as I got to see the different kind of schools that kids my age attend. It is sad to see kids in other countries who would love to go to school everyday but can’t because they don’t have one. The biggest reason why I liked this book is because it made me realize not to take going to school for granted because there are so many kids who would love to be in the position that I’m in and learn new things everyday. It is also cool to see all of the different kinds of schools they have in the world. There is a school in Bangladesh that is on a boat because of all of the flooding that happens in that country. Next, there is a school in Gando, Burkina Faso, which is made completely of clay. The town did not have enough money to buy wood or brick so they made their school out of clay. I don’t want to give all of the schools in the book away, but these are just a small variety of all the other ones in the book. The meaning of this book is to not take getting an education for granted. Like I said before, there are so many people now that don’t appreciate their school and the education that they get. Meanwhile there are thousands of kids in the world who would love to be occupied during the day by learning something new. Every single school in this book has pictures of kids who finally get to go to their own school and they look so happy in it.
