Old Navy is a clothing store that is owned by Gap Inc.; it was founded in 1994 by Millard Drexler. Drexler decided to create a line of clothing that was more affordable than Gap. He called this new discount clothing line, Gap Warehouse. They sold women’s, men’s, girls and boys, and baby clothing, as well as accessories and gadgets by the checkout registers. Gap Warehouse was very successful, Drexler and other executives decided the store needed its own name to give the store its own personality. Millard Drexler decided on the name Old Navy after walking through the streets of Paris, France, visiting a bar named Old Navy. Old Navy became very popular and began to grow to not only around the United States, but the World. The store also gained some big competitors as they grew. It began to grow and stores started popping up all over the United States. There are also stores all over the world, in 2014 Old Navy opened their first store in China. Old Navy became first retail chain to reach $1 billion in sales less than 4 years. The locations of Old Navy stores are in bigger cities in the United States, which can be found in outlet malls or malls. As Old Navy grew, they started gaining competitors like Kohls, TJX Companies Inc., and Walmart stores.
Old Navy’s target of Market is working moms ages 25-35. They decided to target these type of customers in 2008 to revive sales. They saw that a big portion of their customers were middle-class women, looking for affordable and trendy clothes. They still targeted value-seeking families as well. In the women’s section, they sell petite, tall, plus, and maternity sizes and for men, big and tall. In little girl’s section, plus and slim, and for boys, husky and slim. They also sell toddler and baby clothes, from infant sizes
