The children were raised in a certain way and their parents played a big part in their lives even throughout adulthood (Doc O). Inga Clendinnen writes this book with vivid imagery placing the reader into the scene with her interpretation. The very first part talks about the ancient city of Tenochtitlan. Clendinnen, describes the city’s architecture being surrounded by water and safe from enemies attacks. Then she also describes the God’s and ceremonies that took place within that society.

Mesoamerican is where the Aztecs held ceremonies according to the patterns in the Aztec calendar, leading them to believe in a connection to the gods by human sacrifice. They believed so much in the gods that the Aztecs feared the gods were capable of ending the world.
Ancient cultures in Mesoamerica have a reputation for practicing human sacrifice, much of which is dramatized and over exaggerated. The idea that many people have of human sacrifice is much more intense than it was, with rumors of the heart being ripped from the chest of an alive victim, decapitation, skinning and dismemberment. Although many of these things did happen, it was not a constant and everyday thing for the people of Mesoamerica. It is important to remember that for these cultures, sacrifice was an art and a religious practice, and was ritualized and was regarded as a valued part of religious practice and a major part of their culture. Many cultures in Mesoamerica practiced human sacrifice.
Belonging to the Chumash tribe in California our beliefs revolved around our lives daily. We believe in three worlds, the underworld, mankind, and the upperworld (Chumash, 31). Before the Spanish arrival Chumash tribe members knew and believed that earthquakes in California were caused because of the underworld. The underworld were two giant serpents moved causing earthquakes to occur in our lands (Chumash, 31). Not because of land moving, like the Spanish tried to make us believe.

In almost any person's life religion is always an internal struggle. Deciding which religion they want to chose and why they want to chose it. For some people it is more difficult than others to chose one, especially if you are already born into one. Anaya’s main character in Bless Me Ultima is going through many tough emotions to figure out what religion is right for him because he is already born into a very religious Christian family. In Rudolfo Anaya's post WWII Chicano novel Bless Me, Ultima Anaya uses the symbol of the Golden Carp to present an alternative from Christianity that Antonio feels he needs.
The Aztec suggested that the human body is affected by the person’s own beliefs. they had a unique view of the health of human body, they believed that there is a balance between the body and the universe, thus, they are both affected by each other. They considered that happiness and health are sequences of good manners subjected to the god’s will. In contrast, Aztecs believed that sins and faults can cause many dangerous illnesses, they thought that god can cause the illness and cure it. Aztec doctors used herbs to cure many types of illnesses but for severe ones, they linked it to gods’ dissatisfaction.
The gods were supported yearly by festivals and ceremonies that involved feasting and dancing along with the penance and sacrifice. There were three major themes or cults in the Aztec religion. The first were the gods of fertility and the agricultural cycle, such as a god of rain, the god of maize, and the god of fertility. The second were the gods of creation, the ones who brought the universe into being. The third was the cult of warfare and sacrifice built on a pre existent tradition in Mesoamerica.
Plateau people believed that their antecedents were mystical beings that could transform into animals like fish, wolf, coyote, rocks and mountain. The Myth was that “Coyote” was brought salmon up the river every spring and fall, and for transformed people into their present day form. The consequential religious bellwethers in Plateau culture were called “Shamans”. They believed vigorously that there were spirits inhabiting all living and non-living things. Some spirits were good and some spirits were lamentable.
