White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen are two very similar movies. By the looks of the titles, it is easy to see that the movies have almost identical plots. The two movies are about an attack on the White House, and it is up to one guy to try and save what is left of it, along with the President and his staff. Both movies, which were released in 2013, are political action thriller films, but one could say that either Olympus Has Fallen or White House Down was the better movie with its engaging plot, relevance to present day, and political overview. The film, White House Down, is about a Capitol police officer, John Cale, who just recently was denied his dream job of protecting the President as a member of the Secret Service. White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen were written at the same time and about the same thing, without their screenwriters having any knowledge about one another or each other’s projects. To begin with the similarities, both movies contain children, John Cale’s daughter in White House Down and the President’s son in Olympus Has Fallen. In White House Down, John Cale has a tough decision to make. He is “in the extreme straddle position of having to cover the President and rescue Emily [Cale’s daughter] when she is taken hostage” (McCreadie, 2013). The President ends up surrendering himself in exchange for Emily’s life. In Olympus Has Fallen, the President’s son has gone to his special hiding place, where his father told him to go if there was ever any trouble. Mike Banning, former head of the U.S. Secret Service, knew exactly where to find him to get him out safely. Another similarity is that the heroes, John Cale and Mike Banning, both happen to be on site when the attacks happen, even though neither of them had been working there at the time. Fortunately for the President, because they were the main men to get the job done, they were there. Then, towards the end of the movie, John Cale and Mike Banning both end up being put in charge or the president’s security detail. These are just a couple of the obvious similarities with many others large and small (McCreadie,
