It latin the word opera means “work” and it has been around as early as the sixteenth century, originally started in italy. As the years went on,Opera started to become more well known towards the eighteenth-century ,when mozart started writing more comedic pieces. During the renaissance period,They started to become very popular at medieval festivals filled with drama, dancing, and secular music. Many operas out there were comedy but others were also very happy and cheerful as well as sad. The characters of these different operas would evolve and their emotions would change when each act goes on. Operas were mainly an aria or recitative, they then started to add orchestras to give it more depth in the meaning. It includes solo performances …show more content…

To give a little background of this piece, Mozart wrote Don giovanni in 1787, it was first performed on october 29 at the prague national theatre. The setting of Giovanni took place in a picturesque, a 17th century spanish town. This piece is filled with comedy but also tragedy, which is why it is very popular. Don Giovanni was considered one of the greatest operas out there , but not just for the comedy and tragedy that was filled in it, but because Lorenzo Da Ponte's libretto also took part in this opera. Lorenzo was once a priest who was jewish, but didn't really like it , so he started writing and had the opportunity to write with mozart. Anyways, By mozart adding the libretto, he really made it clear who the characters were and what they were all about. He defined each of them in different ways. While watching this oprea i soon learned that it had a Mythological status. Which means that it is a culture tradition in its legend .Both Mozart and Lorenzo decided to retell the story of a guy named Don Juan. Juan was the “Famous seducer of a women.”Which is where they got the name Don Giovanni from, but, The original name was supposed to be “Don Giovanni ossia il Dissoluto
