Marrying outside of your culture can bring uproar to your family because it does not stand true to their ideas. Throughout history the idea of interracial marriage has been seen as an act of rebellion, but when society allows people to marry who they love, good can come from it. The article Intermarried families states “An intermarriage may face opposition from both families and society since the two come from different backgrounds, will they be able to get along? Whose customs will they adopt? Whose religion will they practice? How will they bring up their children?”(Intermarried families). Even though your family says they approve and support everything you do, the idea of marrying outside your ethnicity can affect their view of you. It is good to marry someone you truly love, but when family comes along it is hard to make the decision, will you or will you not marry who you truly love? Based on the idea your family puts up for you does not entitle your happiness. “Intermarriage will increase, family structure, lifestyle, and customs will reflect the variety of admixture among couples”(intermarried families). Family and society may disapprove of intermarriage. Yet the good that comes from it can bring much more to the family. In the survey their estimated data is “There were 1.2 million interracial couples in 1992 with the number of Black-White marriages quadrupling in the past two decades”(Jet). The percent of people who are marrying others outside of their race is a great change for society. It is being shown as more accepting. “It was also learned that approval of interracial relationships is increasing especially among younger Americans”(Jet).
