The main purpose of the article, “Equal Pay Day: When, where and why women earn less than men” by Dana Ford, is to inform the audience about the pay gap between genders that still exists in the United States today. To emphasize on the subject of gender pay gap, Ford shows the reader how race, age, and even the state the woman lives in could affect how big or small the pay gap is. While the speaker, Dana Ford, may use a negative tone toward the issue, this newdesk editor is also aware of the progress in equality in the past 50 years. Ford states that “The good news is that the gender pay gap is getting smaller. In 1964, women on average were paid 59% of what men were paid.

To me, a social injustice is an act in which an individual or group of individuals are not treated fairly based on his or her gender, sexuality, citizenship status, and/or ethnicity. social injustices arise when individuals, who should be considered as equals, are treated unequally. This is caused by barriers, such as racism, oppression, discrimination, and sexism. Social injustices will not be fixed until the individuals who do not respect others start realizing that it is not our differences that should be held against us, but embraced and glorified. Everyone is different, not one person is the same as the next.
During the twentieth century there were many working processes happing in the upper Texas gulf coast directly affecting the African Americans and the middle class. Both social groups dealt with a lot oppression and discrimination by society. The African Americans and the middle working class protested against the race and domination. Power, privilege, and oppression is a rather controversial matter to talk about it in today’s society. It happens everywhere, but people always like to ignore it. Power is the ability to control or influence somebody. Privilege is when a group has trait or advantage over another group, denying others because of who they are. Oppression is rejection or treating others unfairly.

Many Americans have convinced themselves that gender equality was remedied by the Nineteenth Amendment and the Second Feminist Movement, and have not considered the thousands of steps that are left on the journey. Oppression is the root of many and most serious, enduring conflicts in this world today, there is racial and religious conflicts,dictatorial government and their citizens, the battle between sexes, conflicts between management and labor , the hatred against home and hetero sexual relations. What constitutes oppression? Oppression occurs when the majority of shareholders in a situation condome cruelty. In england there is a lot of cruelty going on which constitutes oppression. Racial privilege in America has been witnessed in America ever since the reconstruction period of the Southern United States when the Supreme Court made it unconstitutional to discriminate against the former slaves of America. Racial Oppression in American History The United States of America was born from a rebellion and has become one of the leading super powers; a place that is highly sought after to live. Throughout, American history there are instances where racial oppression was the status quo. The rights and civil liberties of people were cast aside either by deep rooted racism, misguided fears or both. Some of the most well-known misdeeds of the United States is the historic treatment of African Americans, Native Americans and Japanese Americans as has been discussed in class.
In a world that everyone would be able to come together to come up with a conclusion to resolve the conflicts going on in this world. Unfortunately, a large amount of people are either to closed minded to understand the reality or give you a chance to talk and listen but continue having the same mentality. Since you did mentioned inequality and discrimination as one of the issues going on in our country. There has been plenty of groups forming, killing innocent lives, without really truly seeing the consequences from their actions. Racism has been around since the 1600 's in America, as we can all notice, it is still going on.
