Martha Stewart is a best-selling author of numerous books, an Emmy Award-winning television show host, entrepreneur and founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. After graduating from Barnard College with a degree in architectural history, Stewart began a career on Wall Street as a licensed securities broker from 1968 through 1973 by the National Securities Association1. After her career on Wall Street, she moved to Connecticut where she decided to develop and run her own catering business. Jane Addams was a remarkable woman in American history. She was born in Cedarville, Illinois on September 6, 1860 and died on May 21, 1935. She is an extraordinary woman in history because she established one of the very first settlements in the United States known as the Hull House in Chicago, Illinois in 1889 and was recognized worldwide in the first part of the twentieth century for being a pioneer social worker, and internationalist, as well as a feminist. Jane’s full name is Laura Jane Addams and she was born as the eighth sibling out of nine children. Her father was an affluent miller, businessman, and a prosperous state senator; he had several important friends.
She was born as a slave in New York in 1797. “She devoted her life to the abolitionist cause and helped recruiting black troops for the Union Army”(Sojourner Truth). On June 1st, 1843, she changed her name to Sojourner Truth. A quote that tells the reason for her change, “ The Lord gave me 'Sojourner,' because I was to travel up an' down the land, showin' the people their sins an' bein' a sign unto them. Afterwards, I told the Lord I wanted another name 'cause everybody else had two names, and the Lord gave me 'Truth,' because I was to declare the truth to people.”

Sojourner was born to James and Elizabeth Baumfree Truth was born along with 10 - 12 siblings. In 1806 when she was 9 she was separated from her family and sold to john Neely because her former owner Charles Hardenbergh had died.
She had siblings that would soon be sold into slavery and to nearby plantations. She endured physical violence throughout her childhood and some led to permanent injuries. She later married a free black man little knew
All of these people have unequaled accomplishments that qualify them for the positions. Jane Addams was a tenacious women with abilities to sway people to conform and come to unity as a whole for a better purpose. She carried her ideals and actions with firm intentions only to greater others that needed help. She has the experience to help us prevail into an overall better world and she would not mind continuing to fight afterwards to keep it that way. “A man who dies rich dies disgraced” (“PBS”).
Jane Addams is remembered for many things, some remembered them as great. Some people remember her actions as disgraceful. As Jane Addams once said, "Action indeed is the sole medium of expression for ethics." (Biography.com 1) This statement is interpreted as her saying, "If you take the right actions, they will be the key to having an effect on the event in your favor."

Truth and her family served a kind master until Truth was about nine years old. Unfortunately, Truth only spoke Dutch for the first part of her life, and was sold to English-speaking masters.

She shared her slave master’s last name of Hardenberg. She was later sold, and took the last name of her new “owner,” Dumont. “Voices” instructed her to change her name—and Truth is who she became. The undeniable rang out from Sojourner’s soul. She spoke of race; she spoke of men’s disgrace.
