Recommended: How mothers are portrayed in literature
In Jeannette Walls’ work, “The Glass Castle,” she starts her memoir with a vivid story about her Mom rooting through a dumpster in New York City. Her Mom is currently homeless, but Jeannette is living in a lavish apartment on Park Avenue. Walls feels ashamed that she is living such an extravagant lifestyle, while her parents are living in filth. If you were in Jeannette Walls’ shoes, would you try to force your mother to live with you or would you let her enjoy being homeless, even though you know she is struggling just to find something to eat?
Ordinary People Lack of communication leads to much dysfunction. Ordinary People based on the book by Judith Guest revolves around the Jarrett family and their efforts to communicate. Conrad Jarrett, the son of Calvin and Beth Jarrett, struggles with PTSD and survivor’s guilt after the death of his brother in a boating accident. Additionally, Beth, who favored her older son, has isolated herself from Conrad. She distances herself emotionally, whilst trying to maintain the family’s idealistic reputation.
The mother also spends a lot of money she doesn’t have. She also pretends that she is above the law and believes that she should be considered royalty and not a common

I worked out a budget and and calculated that we could indeed squeak by if I made extra money babysitting. ”(Walls 209) This is the total opposite of her father, who would selfishly blow all the money on cigarettes and alcohol for himself.
The film Ordinary People follows the family of a once suicidal teenage boy, Conrad, who is dealing with severe survivor's guilt after the death of his older brother, Buck, at sea. Throughout the movie, dysfunction within the family is very evident on many different occasions. Each of the three remaining members of the household; Beth Jarrett, Calvin Jarrett and, as mentioned before, Conrad Jarrett, demonstrate many instances where inadequacy in conflict management is clearly shown. If not for these deficiencies, however, the family would have been able to better cope and recover from the loss of Buck.
Ordinary People In the award winning film, Ordinary People, the Jarrett family has just suffered the loss of their eldest son, Buck. The family lacks the ability to express the grief in their loss. A conflict management technique that could have helped the Jarrett family be more open about their emotions is to create safety. Conrad turns to violence and silence when safety is not established.
This is seen by the actions she takes to get to her goal, statements she makes towards her family members, and how she responds to her family when they are troubled. Mama has lived in her apartment for a long time with her family and is about to get enough money to change that. An example of Mama’s motivation to achieve her goal is shown when Ruth, her daughter-in-law and Mama are talking about what Mama would do with the insurance money. Mama states, “Been thinking that we maybe could meet the notes on a little old two-story somewhere, with a yard where Travis could play in the summertime, if we use part of the insurance for a down payment and everybody kind of pitch in” (563). Mama is suggesting to Ruth of what could be a better future for her son and their family.
I went to the play, “The Adams Family” at the Terrance Plaza Playhouse in ogden. I really enjoye going to it. I enjoyed the play “The Adams Family I had not ever seen the adams family and knew nothing about it other than their one main song. The theater there may no thave been huge but it was not hard at all to hear them clearly and I liked that to.

The theme of the play Our Town is to appreciate the simple things in life. George, one of the main characters, says “The day wouldn’t come when I wouldn’t want to know everything that’s happening here. I know that’s true, Emily.” (Wilder 91). George appreciates his home town of Grover’s Corners.
Instead of being perceived as an affliction, I believe that being ordinary should be recognized as a comfort for it exhibits stability and security. I believe that I am an average individual.
In society today, normalcy is average; some are above, and some are below. In this short story, that is removed.

Ordinary People is a 1980 American drama film that marked the directorial debut of actor Robert Redford. The movie won several Academy Awards for Best Director, Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay), Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor (Timothy Hutton). The film has also attracted much critical acclaim. Ordinary People is the story of an upper middle-class family living in Illinois dealing with the loss of their oldest son, Buck.
What is the definition of normal? According to http://www.dictionary.com/browse/normal, normal is plainly just being standard or ordinary. If everyone was normal the human race would never grow. We all have our flaws that define us but if you take those away we are flatly the same as everyone else. Where’s the fun in that.
My book report for December is on The Swiss Family Robinson, by J.D. Wyss. This book takes place on an island somewhere in the East Indies. The time of the events in the book is never mentioned once. In The Swiss Family Robinson, a family is stranded on an island after their ship wrecks. They are forced to live on the island, and overcome the challenges that nature presents.
