Organizational Theory can be a vital component of preparing professionals to work in public service. Consideration of the three broad theories the modern perspective, symbolic-interpretive, and the postmodern perspective helps to understand society’s problems within organizations (Hatch & Cunliffe, 2013). This essay will examine how the course Organizational Theory facilitates personal growth in my present career.
The Department of Health and Human Service (DHHS), is a public, government agency that offers services through caseworkers to assist veterans, low-income families, abused or neglected children, and vulnerable adults (Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services: Office of the Chief Executive Officer, 2016; Jones, Sakena, personal communication, December 11, 2016). Many postmodernist believe reality is formless, fragmented, and reality is an illusion; postmodernist remind people that organizations have other resources beyond the social structure (Hatch & Cunliffe, 2013; Bryan, 2016). Accordingly, I have the balance, confidence, and skills of challenging my own beliefs as well as the beliefs and values of people and DHHS. In Sum, Organizational Theory can be a vital component when it comes to preparing professionals to work in public service. Therefore, this course exemplifies my skills while working in the public sector through combining theory with management styles, class lecture, and self-study. Dr. Bryan`s class facilitates my professional growth by challenging me to think and write comprehensively (Bryan, 2016).
