In the book I read an orphan boy has no friends and is mistreated by his caregivers. He is an orphan because his parents died protecting him from a wizard of dark arts. He finds out he is a wizard before he goes into sixth grade. He meets a giant that is his first wizard friend. He meets his other two friends on the train to his school. When the boy gets to school he puts on a magic hat that tells him which house he is in. He ends up being in the same house as his parents were and two friends are. As the school year progresses the boy learns how to use his magic and about the magical realm plants and animals. Harry and his classmates are learning how to fly on broomsticks when a bully from a rival house takes a someone’s toy. Harry is a natural on the broom and flies gracefully in the air to get the toy back. The bully is injured and Harry becomes the seeker on his house Quidditch team. In the beginning the pace is slow but as the story moves along it becomes faster and stays at that speed for most of the story. As the climax approaches the pace gets faster then it goes back to the pace it was at the beginning of the book. No one wants to read a story where the pace in constant because that makes it boring. Changing the pace caused the story be more dramatic and dynamic; by changing the pace, the author kept the story interesting and helped define what they really wanted us to understand and feel deeply. If the author hadn’t changed the pace, some parts that were meant to be slow so you could absorb all the facts would be quick and the information would have gone in one ear and out of the other. It is important to get all the information from book so you can understand it fully. It is also important because it is a series and information from previous books shapes the next
