In Orthodox Synagogues, women sit separately from the men often divided by a curtain or partition called a mechitzah. The messenger of the congregation is the cantor because while reciting the prayers if the congregation doesn’t know the prayer they can answer Amen. A Bimah is a raised platform where the Torah is read. The word Bimah comes from the biblical Hebrew word bama which mean high place. In an Orthodox Synagogue the Bimah is located in the center of the building and it is located at the far end of the building close to the Ark at a Liberal or Reform synagogue. A rabbi is a teacher that knows the Jewish law and a rabbi can start a service and preach the sermons. A font is when someone get baptized by a priest with Holy water. it is located near the entrance of the church. Crosses are Christianity 's most common symbol. The cross is there to remind people of when Jesus was on the cross because he died for our sins. Roman Catholic shows Jesus being crucifixes while Protestant uses plan crosses. The Altar is the most religious part of the whole church and it is separated by a screen from the rest of the church. The Christians use this place to celebrate the Eucharist. During this time they serve bread and wine because Jesus gave bread and wine to his disciples, the bread symbolize is body while the wine symbolize his blood. some Christians believe the ceremony is just a figurative while others believe the bread and wine is Jesus ' body and blood. the pulpit is where the pastor stand to give a sermon based on the Bible. The pulpit is usually find to the side and the altar is in the middle of the church. Before the 16th century, worshippers would stand or sat during services. Those items describe above are different from ancient churches. For example, mercy seats are wooden shelves where the clergy take breaks while they are long prayers but they could only lean on them not seat on
