The shooting and killing of Oscar Grant took place on new years day, in the year of 2009. Officer Johannes Mehserle was the man responsible for this killing. Mehserle was called to a scene where a fight had broken out on a nearby train. He along with other officers worked to resolve the mishap that was taking place. While trying to detain some of the fighters from the train, some resisted. Oscar Grant ended up being shot and killed. Some thought of this to be an accident, but many factors go to show quite the opposite. This killing was intentional, and in no way was it an accident. Officer Mehserle stated this action was an accident, in which he meant to use his taser instead of his handgun (Meyer). I do not believe this, and many others don't either. The weird thing was that never again after the shooting did he ever say those words again(Lewis). He also never mentioned anything about the taser, or that it was a mistake. Other officers had stated these facts to jurors while being questioned, which put up questions for the jurors. No one knew what to exactly believe about the whole case. I believe that Mehserle was frightened by grant, and in this instant, he chose to use his gun. Therefore Mehserle intentionally grabbed his gun, instead of his taser to make sure he would live. In life a human's reaction to a life-or-death scenario, their reaction is to survive(Duante Write Shooting…). Survive, as in this case, purposely grabbing your gun since it would give you better protection than your taser would. Mehserle knew that his gun would keep him safe, and by using it the thing frightening him would no longer be a
