Ask the average American to name a gang they are familiar with and chances are the response will be either the Crips or the Bloods. Over four decades ago, African American youth founded these gangs after many years of oppression, marginalization, and institutional racism. The Crips and the Bloods, who originated from neighborhoods of Southern California, have now spread across the nation with a presence in thirty-two states. They changed the American landscape forever.
In the United States, every year there are around 2,000 gang-related homicides and in the realistic fiction novel, The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, it explores the issues of gang violence, and teenagers in gangs. Around 40% of all members in gangs are teenagers, who are getting involved in some dangerous things very early in life. In the novel The Outsiders, the “Greasers” which is a gang of all teenagers, fight other gangs and commit serious crimes such as murder. We as a society need to pinpoint why teenagers join gangs and stop them beforehand. We also need to help people get out of gangs if they are already in one.
There are many gang groups in the United States and the popular ones would be the Crips and Bloods in Los Angeles. They have their name which they hold meaning to and take great pride of what they do even if it’s violent. A person’s social interaction would be with dealers and burglars if they were born in the ghetto. People put so much meaning into family because they have always been together through the hard times

Hmong gangs started forming in the United States in the late 1980s and early 1990s for protection from other neighborhood youth and school bullies where large members of Hmong refugees settled. Unlike many Latino and African American youth gang members who came from a broken family, Hmong gang members are mostly from a good home. They often come from intact homes with supportive and loving parents. However, the young Hmong generations found themselves caught between two completely different culture, the mainstream American cultures and the traditional Hmong culture. At school or in the public, children are American; but at home, Hmong children are in another totally different world.

(Gangs) A deviant subculture is defined as a subculture, which has values and norms that differ substantially from the majority of people in society. When a neighborhood or community favors illegal activities, a criminal subculture is likely to develop such as gangs. Walter Miller states that deviant subcultures don’t arise from the inability of a community to achieve success, but because of a lower-class subculture whose values and norms are different from the rest of society. Subcultures can be a good thing, because they can provide a sense of belonging, interaction with people who have similar interests, and gives members the freedom to express individuality.
Introduction Juvenile delinquency due to gang relation has increased drastically. Many people fail to realize that gangs have a considerable influence on the decisions juveniles are making. Adolescents are easily influenced by the members of the gangs and manipulated to commit certain crimes. As juveniles they are not mentally and emotionally mature to make such critical decisions, which in turn allow gang members to manipulate and control the youth they recruit. Juveniles become a part of gangs for several reasons, including, gaining protection, governmental, and social issues.
