NWA was a rap group in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. During the active years of the group, they always struggled with racially motivated police brutality. Straight Outta Compton is a movie written and directed by Oshea Jackson J.R. or better known as Ice Cube who was a member of the group. He continually expresses the unfairness of how they are treated and how nothing has been changed. The racial and cultural tensions between African Americans and police has been an issue for many years. The movie shows how little the world has changed and how politics serve a role in the unfair treatment. The Cultural conflict in Straight Outta Compton shows the tensions between cops and black people in the rap industry. In NWA’s song, “F* The Police”, they paint a strong picture for what was going on. In the early seconds of the song, Ice cube raps the lyrics, “A young ni**a got it bad ’cause I’m brown and not the other color, so police think they have the authority to kill a minority.”. In the late 80’s rap was frowned upon, so the group struggled to obtain publicity and it was difficult to get anyone to work with them. There’s a segment in the movie that shows the group's producer, Jerry Heller, speaking to a police officer. Jerry starts off by saying "Rappers. And they’re working with me in the studio right now". The police officer then responds with "Well, see, Rap is not an art". This short segment goes to show that no matter the group’s talent, people, especially police, do not believe in
