The business we chose to focus our project on is Publix Supermarkets. On Sept. 6, 1930, founder George Jenkins opened his first store, called Publix Food Store, in Winter Haven Florida. Today Publix has grown to be Florida’s largest employer with 168,500 employees and run 1,080 stores. Total sales in 2013 were 28.9 billion, relatively large for a regional corporation. Their mission statement is “To be the premier food quality retailer in the world,” and they’re doing an excellent job at it.
The company amazon works with a multitude of companies to form a electronic commerce market for their consumers in which they package and ship things to their home. The company has been expanding and building exponentially as the popularization of online shopping has expanded domestically and continues worldwide. The company has recently passed Walmart as most valuable retailer in 2015, achievement representative of market trend toward e-commerce. I am interested in this company as they continue to expand, it maintains the capital to fund great projects for possible future projects that can further change the world besides e-commerce. The company has potential for a biomedical engineer in the fashion that they can pool resources for vital components to any medical device they perceive as viable to the world.
With the proceeding with development of innovation, it 's not amazing how patterns are always showing signs of change too. A major number of organizations attempt to make new patterns or keep up and ride with the present ones as they make new tech new companies that will snare general society and keep them needing for additional. 1) Andrew Carnegie used vertical integration, controlling every step in the process of manufacturing a product, dominating the market. Vertical integration is when the company owns all means of distribution from beginning to end, this makes supplies more reliable and improved efficiency. It controlled the quality of the product at all stages of production. Horizontal integration was used by John D. Rockefeller and is an act of joining or consolidating with one’s competitors to create a monopoly. In Ohio in 1870 he organized the Standard Oil Company.

Andrew Carnegie was born in 1835 and died in 1919. He emigrated from Scotland at the age of 13 and worked at the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1853.
