Paper 3 is a paper that gives solutions to preventing or avoiding misinformation altogether. But, I wanted to help find sources that helps both sides, the persistent misinformation spreaders and the experts in science, with the normal everyday civilians. Misinformation spreads fast due to social media and is very impressionable to people are easily influenced. So, I found a source that tries to connect both sides, titled “Special Feature: Countering Vaccine Misinformation”. This article talks about how nurses should speak up and raise their voices. Nurses have respect and experience in the field; they have seen the truth, so try to spread the truth. I believe it is a good way to combat this; it is kind of like a peer review, but with experiences and work. Everyone is allowed a voice, so they should speak up and try to help out the scientists. Also, nurses are very caring and kind people usually, so they can persuade the other side.
The next article is about the amount of censorship social media companies are doing, its effects and a different approach to countering misinformation, titled “COVID-19 and misinformation: Is censorship of social media a remedy to the spread of medical misinformation?”. The article goes heavy into the social media companies, showing evidence of what media companies have done to battle against misinformation such as, “Examples of “objectionable content” include “hate speech”, “glorification of violence” or “harmful and dangerous content”. A direct approach that I thought was silly at first, but it is not half bad. “Corrections—the presentation of information designed to rebut an inaccurate claim or a misperception —are an important treatment for misinformation” (Vraga and Bode) gives the definition of their proposal and wants other people online to try it. It is a very hands on approach unlike everyone else’s who lean towards algorithms and other people., but this time it is other people and ourselves. Vraga and Bode says that we can correct them privately or publicly on social media platforms. There is going to be a ton of arguments and disagreements between the two parties. All you would do to the person is to show them evidence and facts to prove them and change their minds somehow. However, I think it will just become heated altercation that will go
