The Vietnam war took place and in vietnam it had lasting effects are american on society . Vietnam veterans came back with many issues due to war trauma. Some of the issues were : PTSD and drugs. The economy also suffered from the Vietnam war in many ways. Drug use was rampant during the Vietnam War. During Vietnam War U.S. military gave servicemen speed, steroids and painkillers to help them fight longer and perform and be more aware. Overtime, Vietnam was known as a “pharmacological war”or known as the drug war. Soldiers were taking too many drugs to survive war physically plus emotionally. A lot of soldiers used drugs to eliminate stress. It helped them mellow out, helped them continue fighting. Although using drugs was up to the soldiers, it was punishable act under army rules. For some soldiers drug use followed them outside the war making life back home very difficult. …show more content…

(PTSD) also known as Posttraumatic Stress Disorder,is caused be seeing or experiencing a terrifying event. The most common besides PTSD were: depression, anxiety, and alcohol problems. PTSD affected who experienced a traumatic events, including: war, sexual assault, natural disasters, also accidents. PTSD is defined as having flashbacks and upsetting memories, it remains a chronic reality of everyday life. Male veterans who had PTSD in 1987 were twice as likely to have died. 7% females and 11% males have/had PTSD. Many veterans with PTSD are drug addicts, unfortunately these conditions are often invisible to the eye, unlike the physical wounds of war.
