However, the SACE Framework does possess within it some limitations. Now with the Australian Curriculum becoming more standardised throughout Australia, is differences between state to state are starting to become less significant. Thus, a limitation to SACE could be argued to extend to the Australian Curriculum as a whole. One such limitation is the concept of scaling. Scaling in itself is something that is necessary, the difference between the study plans of Stage 2 History vs Stage 2 Specialist Maths are undeniable. However, the weakness is in the lack of information provided to students on the extent of scaling and how that affects their ATAR or TAFE score. Although presented as a strength above, the research project also represents a limitation. The research project in itself is an added stressor on student trying to complete their studies. With school being all students know in life, the later years can become quite stressful, as it would appear their entire existence has been building towards this point. Although the benefits of the research project have been outlined, it could not be argued that it is an extra assessment piece that needs to be produced by the students. The research project does allow for flexibility with calculating ATAR and TAFE scores, as it can take the place of 50% one Stage 2 subject. However, the added stress of the project could be argued to be limitation of the SACE program. Students taking on the ‘Suicide 5’, that being Stage 2 Maths Studies, Specialist Maths, Chemistry, Physics and English Studies, may feel burdened by the addition of the research project.
