Studies have shown that patients who had a greater amount of interactions with animals had an increased number of affected sites compared to patient with little or no contact with animals (Gennari, 2010). These suggests that animal-related factors in this case paramyxovirus may interact with the SQSTM1 mutations to influence the severity of the disease. (Rota, 2010; Ralston, 2013; Gennari, 2010). However data on the amount and continuity of the infection of patients is conflicting and may require further studies (Ralston, 2013). Symptoms of the Paget’s disease can be seen in increase in the level of serum alkaline phosphatase, followed by bone pain caused by an increase in bone turn over or complications like pseudo fracture (Ralston, …show more content…

In other to increase and maximise the chances of a patient developing less complications and living a better quality of life early diagnosis and intervention is very key (Ralston, 2014). Genetic testing for mutations such as SQSTM1 in patients with a family history of disease if the disease (Ralston, 2014). Understanding genetic testing as well as identifying the environmental triggers and how they interact to influence the degree of disease severity and susceptibility is very key to diagnosis and treatment of Paget’s disease (Visconti, 2010; Ralston,
