Section Two: The woman showed a lot more nonverbal interaction then the men. Although the men’s actions may have been easier to assume because their actions were so exaggerated, the woman were the ones who did things more often, however more subtly. I noticed that the men were more apt to stay with the movements they had done, whereas if one woman check her phone, the other would, if one woman leaned in so would the other. I felt as though the environment I watched the two different groups may have played a role in the difference of communication efforts between the men and the woman. One of them was seemingly frustrated with some sort of situations and from what I could tell the other woman was there to give her advice and console her. It was a little bit difficult to observe and try to see the conversation topic because they definitely to notice to the fact that I kept looking at them. The men however were just catching up and seemed to be friends that had not seen each other in a while. After I observed them I left and walked by about an hour later and the two men were still their sitting chatting. I think that also may be why their non-verbal communication was more relaxed because it was a less serious conversation than the woman. I do believe that emotions are contagious. While I was observing I noticed that when the woman was talking they would have very similar emotions to each other and remain serious or involved in whatever the other was doing. With the men I noticed that when one of the smiled or started to chuckle, the other would start to laugh or smile as well. I noticed that it was very easy for me to read the reactions both groups had to the discussion through their facial expressions. In particular the subjects were not adequate (if they were even trying to) with hiding their emotions. Module 38 states “…we find it difficult to detect deceiving expressions” (Porter & ten Brinke, 2008). I also thoroughly could see as stated in Module 38 that woman express stronger emotions then men.
