Paper Towns is written by John Green (also the author of "Looking for Alaska"). The beginning starts with Quentin waking up late. When Quentin gets to school he meets his friend Ben. Ben tells him that Radar, a nickname he gained because he used to look like a black version of Gary Burghoff from M*A*S*H. The rest of the day goes normally for Quentin until Margo climbs through his window at night, for the first since they were kids. Margo tells him about her plan, she chose him to be her getaway man for her plan. While she is persuading him to help her, her dad yells at her from her house. She tells him that she would come back and jumped out of the window, he then decided that he will help anyways and gets the keys for his mom's minivan.
Margo had 11 steps to her plan and the first part in getting that plan started was going to the grocery store to get materials. At the grocery store Margo bought catfish, Veets, The Club, and Vaseline. The first place they visit is Becca's, her best friend, house. Margo knows the security guard there who lets them into the building. When they get up to the top Margo tells Quentin about paper towns and what paper towns are. Once they get back to the minivan Margo tel Quentin about the 10th part of her plan: Quentin's Choice. When he states that he doesn't have any ideas, Margo suggests that they get revenge on Chuck Parson, Quentin agrees even though a claimed to not hold anything against Chuck for the way he treats Quentin. When they arrive at Chucks house (after arriving at the wrong house and having to ask Ben for the address) they first apply Vaseline to all the door knobs so that they don't get caught when running away. They then apply Veets off one of Chuck's eyebrows, Chuck wakes up and yells for his mom and dad but do not recognize Margo and Quentin in his
