If people had the opportunity to be the tallest, strongest, smartest, and most mature student in the classroom would they want it, but the reason they were among the brightest was because they were the oldest because they were held back. In Malcolm gladwell's book The Outliers, he made the reader aware of redshirting, which is a new technique to get your child ahead in education and sports by holding them back a year in kindergarten. He shows an analogy with hockey players and redshirted children. His research shows that none of the most best professional hockey players were born in fall and they were mostly born in the winter and spring. By holding your child back you are being extremely counterproductive. The parents intentions are attempting to heidt their child to the position of the brightest child in the class room but in reality your child has already lost a whole year of Education where they could be getting ahead in their most crucial time of brain development. A lot of parents who have children in late summer believe that their child is not ready and needs time to mature because they will be the youngest in the class. By spending time with older children they will adjust to them and their behaviour. If they spend time with students who are younger than them they will not mature as fast as you would think or gain anything positive from the younger students. The redshirted child might pick up some bad behaviors and hints of regression will be spotted in their behavior.
