Catlyn’s parents have been in jail since the beginning of October. Catyln’s grandfather told Catlyn to stay with Onnie. Onnie is the mother to Catlyn’s friend. Onnie found out the parents were in jail two days later on the news; Catyln had been with Onnie since. On 10-19-15, Linda (grandmother) picked Catyln up from Onnie’s home.
Nutter stated “You need to get home to your kids before we have to. Parents who neglect their children, who don't know where they are, don't know what they're doing, don't know who they're hanging out with -- you're going to find yourselves spending some quality time with your kids in jail -- together. Together.” Mayor Nutter used ethos to show parents that their character reflects on their children. If parents aren’t doing their job to teach their kids right from wrong they will be punished with their children.
Wes 2 had a mom who tried to have an authoritative parenting style where she gave love and discipline, but because of their unfortunate circumstances she could not get control of Wes 2 and her parenting style was essentially uninvolved. On the other hand, Wes 1 went to military school where he was given many authoritative mentors, such as Captain Hill, who gave discipline and guidance (Moore, 97). Children who go through an uninvolved parenting style are the least likely to fit society’s norms, while kids who go through an authoritative parenting style are more likely to fit society’s norms (Textbook, 427). These different upbringings could be why Wes 1 is an outstanding citizen and Wes 2 is in jail right
“The black family in the age of mass incarceration,” author Ta-Nehisi Coates toss back on the attempt of “The Negros family”, report by the American politician and sociologist Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s have benefactor to reduce America’s mass detainment, bringing about a country with the world’s biggest jail populace and the largest rate of detainment. In this article, he explained about the difficulties of black families about the racism that have continually arisen in times gone by to present day. Moynihan, who was brought up from a broken home and pathological family, had polite intrusion when he wrote the article “The Negros family.” His article argued that the government has disparaged the damage caused to the black family from past few centuries.

1. What is the definition of custody and treatment? a. Custody: the activities within a prison that control inmate behavior and maintain order. b. Treatment: “is the creation of an environment and provision of rehabilitative programs that encourage inmates to accept responsibility and to address personal disorders that make success in the community more difficult.” 2.
I also agree that both the person gettin incarcerated, and the family is affected. They miss out on each others lives. Like with Mr. Harris he was in prison for 20 years. Now all of his kids are grown, and he missed out on them growing up. This also puts the mother in a weird position to take care of the children by herself.
Should Kids Be Tried As Adults? Kids are being tried as adults by our juvenile justice system depending on the crime they commit or by the degree of the murder they commit. The way the crime was committed the way it was planned out plays a major role on the sentence of those victims or kids who are tried as adults. Some kids get locked up their whole life while the others who are given a sentence can be just kept until they turn 25 and they just let them go. This system is criticized by many people who believe that those who commit these crimes and are sentenced to life time without parole are not given a second chance to life.
The article reviewed the issues that occur in a child’s life in regard to their education when their parents are incarcerated. Vacca points out that the children of parents that are incarcerated often “experience emotional withdrawal, failure in school, delinquency, and the risk of intergenerational incarceration” (49). He also suggests that many people in our society do not realize that these children “…often they lack any positive intervention from homes and community agencies” which allows them to fall through the cracks (Vacca
Children need to feel secure and loved and need supervision and guidance. If a parent cannot be present to care for and look after their children, it can cause the child to feel afraid and they may act out or behave in ways that they would not if the parent were living with them. Several studies have found that a significant number of children of incarcerated parents struggle with a variety of childhood problems that have long term implications for adult adjustment (Kjellstrand, 2012). Even if children visit parents in while they are incarcerated, the physical and emotional distance can become a strain on their relationship. I think more should be done to encourage courts to take families into consideration in sentencing and correctional facilities should have better resources for incarcerated parents to maintain healthy relationships with their children.
The article I read was the last words of a prison inmate. He has written the letter to his mother., condoning her for his upbringing. How her actions help lead him to the life he had, and the actions he did. It was a great example of the right and wrong parents should teach their parents. As well as an outcry for education to strengthen, both the parent and the child alike.
Doing so has had countless adverse effects on the youth. Despite this, many prisons and facilities have turned a blind eye to these negative factors, and continue to plant them in the adult systems. Children should not have to be put in jails and prisons with adults because they have an increased chance of being raped, educational services are often too expensive, and their minds are inclined to becoming mentally unstable, which often leads to suicide. Solutions to these issues include lifting the ban that prevents grants to be awarded to inmates, and abolishing children from adult jail facilities altogether. Conversely, others may argue that these children deserve this treatment, children are becoming more intelligent and know right from wrong, and that these sentences will show others what can potentially happen.
Children' brain are not fully developed yet. Thus, they do not realize the risks and consequences of their action. School-to-prison pipeline is arresting children for violating school rules. Statistic show drop out students are likely in jail for many reasons. Society need to focus more on education and spend less on prison, which can save thousands of taxpayers’ money.
Also that being in prison is already punishment enough. I believe it may be harsh, but not harsh enough to banish those monsters Can we really take any as parents? They are still criminals who broke the law, which in this context means that the choices they are going to make will not be to help keep order but to help to bend it when it pleases
What is the most effective parenting style? Parents have many different ways of raising their child. Some may agree or disagree on how one may parent their child. Some even argue that there is no right or wrong way to parent a child. There are multiple parenting styles such as the assertive style, the aggressive style, and the permissive style.
