Part one
Music can benefit people in many different ways. I have experienced differing reactions to various types of music. In order to rate and create a workout playlist, I used the Brunel Music Rating Inventory to sufficiently capture the personal effect of each song. This playlist will give help me find out what physical and psychological affects music can have during my gym routine. For inspiration, I searched through my personal playlist and listened to various pieces consecutively. At first I believed modern electro would be a well worthy genre for this task. ‘Get ready for this’ encouraged my cardio routine, that I began on a bicycle machine. The song built up my stamina and the rising speed of the song gave me an energy burst rushing through my body. The song proved to be faithful as I was able to reach my maximum potential during the cardio session. Research by Szabo, Small & Leigh (1999), established that music encourages individual’s workout abilities by decreasing exhaustion, rising emotional motivation, inspiring stimulation and developing motor functionality.

This is a classic motivational song, I had first heard it during my early childhood, and know it to be highly inspiring. It proved to be a great addition to my workout playlist. This song playlist transformed my normal exercise routine into one that feels more like a recreational activity and less like work, permitting me to not become exhausted and stressed out as easily. It is experienced and known by any individual, who has ever gone on a long run with their listening device or taken an energetic spinning class that music can add an inspirational factor of music that allows time to pass quicker.
