Silver Linings Playbook is known for being a “Psycho- comedy” and a “crazy romantic comedy”. Starring Bradley Cooper, as Pat Solitano, who is a former teacher and recent divorcee. Bradley Cooper’s character is considered to be a unique character that suffers from a significant mental illness. In this film, there are a number of demonstrations of symptoms that are presented to justify and diagnose the individual’s mental illness. Also, this film portrays the difficulties that one goes through due to their measure of mental illness.
Initially, Patrick Solitano, Jr., or Pat, was released from a neural health facility for recovery of a trauma and discovery of his mental illness and resides into the care of his mother and father. He was hospitalized …show more content…

At that event, Pat nearly beat the man to death, which resulted in him receiving a court order for an 8 month commitment to a psychiatric hospital for brutal assault. He has an ultimate objective to get in shape and reunite with his wife, Nikki, despite their current history.
There are numerous encounters of symptoms that Pat displays throughout the film. For example, he did not sleep due to reading the book Hemingway, and when he finally finished he threw the book out the window, causing it to shatter, because he found the ending unsatisfying. He then went to his parents bedroom and complained about the book and how it was being taught to Nikki’s students. Also, on a different occasion he was up all night trying to find his wedding video and becomes excessively angry for not being able to find it. Pat is then wrathful and becomes to yell and destroy things in his house and disturbing his parents. These instances represent manic episodes and the decrease need for sleep. Throughout the film, he demonstrates a the symptom of insomnia, as he stays up at night doing activities. He is very goal oriented and energized by attempting to significantly lose weight and need to read books, which are specifically oriented
