At this point in the play, Macbeth has decided to kill the king of Scotland. In Act 2 Scene 1 of Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, he utilizes pathos and dark, liquid imagery to create a mood in the reader similar to that of Macbeth’s emotions. As stated earlier, Macbeth is prepared to kill his king--an act he originally didn’t want to commit. Since his meeting with the Witches, Lady Macbeth has worked her way into Macbeth’s mind. She has now completely convinced him that he wants to be king, this is an example of the reliance on someone else’s thoughts.
When trying to convince someone of something, “the mind is no match with the heart in persuasion; constitutionality is no match with compassion” (Everett Dirksen). Persuading someone into another opinion is difficult, and that difficulty reaches its maximum when trying to persuade someone into something like crime. Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, takes place in early modern Scotland, in which the main character Macbeth is told his future of being future king. However, in order to be future king, Macbeth must murder King Duncan and get away with it. Within the book, the characters use many rhetorical appeals that serve to deceive and persuade others in order to get what they want.
Kennedy Shank Mr. Samek ELA 10 18 May 2023 Lady Macbeth was talking to Macbeth about murdering King Duncan due to Macbeth considering backing out; Lady Macbeth uses ethos, pathos, questions, and imagery to convince Macbeth of killing King Duncan. In Act I Scene VII, Lady Macbeth addresses Macbeth regarding killing King Duncan. The thought came up when Macbeth received a prophecy saying that he would be King, which then led to him wanting to be King sooner rather than later. After Macbeth brought the idea up to Lady Macbeth, she was on board to go ahead with it and, at the time, so was Macbeth.
As Lady Macbeth continues to criticize Macbeth on why he will not kill Duncan, she acknowledges that Macbeth would “be more than what [he was], [Macbeth] would be so much more the man” (1.7.57-58). Lady Macbeth indicates that if Macbeth continues with his plan and kills Duncan, he will then develop into more of the man he previously was. As ethos is a form of creating reliability within an audience, Macbeth is seduced by Lady Macbeth into thinking that he will develop into a masculine figure if he kills Duncan. In addition, Lady Macbeth uses pathos as one of her main elements for convincing Macbeth to commit a ruthless murder against Duncan. After Macbeth withdraws from his plan to kill Duncan, Lady Macbeth confidently avows that she would “have plucked [her] nipple from [the baby’s] boneless gums/And dashed the brains out, had [she] so sworn as [Macbeth] have done this” (1.7.65-67).
MacBeth is the main character in Shakespeare's MacBeth and rightfully so. He is the character that changes the most and has the greatest impact on the story. MacBeth is the one whom the tragedy is placed on, and because of this it is his story. MacBeth's dynamic character changes throughout the play driving the story forward and showing the theme of visions of power create ambition in individuals. The first point that has to be explained is MacBeth's dynamic character.
There are many people in the world that experience mental problems and therefore affecting their personality. Not everyone though is as bad as Macbeth when it comes to mental deterioration. Macbeth is a very self-centered man and it leads him to change the person he once was. Although it is not seen much in the beginning of Shakespeare's play “The Tragedy of Macbeth”, Macbeth’s mental state deteriorates as the play progresses, which can be seen when he is guilty of murdering King Duncan, being taunted by the ghost of Banquo, and his speech to the witches.

Lady Macbeth, Macbeth’s right hand woman is one of Shakespeare's most famous female characters. She is portrayed by society and critiques as an evil, horrible person as it was her idea to kill Duncan. Others such as I believe, Lady Macbeth is a multifaceted character as she has many different traits contrary to just pure evil. She has an immense amount of control, ambition and guilt. These three traits correlate with one another to form the unique individual Lady Macbeth is.
Throughout the play, “The Tragedy of Macbeth”, the main character, Macbeth, who is a Scottish General and the Thane of Glamis has tried to control his future and bury his actions in the past. The reason Macbeth does this is because he knows that his actions are unworthy and below chivalrous, but his ambition cloud his judgment and causes him to do these heinous acts. Particularly what Macbeth is trying so hard to change is how people see Scotland, he is trying to change how people see Scotland and bury the old ways. In Act 1 Scene 3 we see the key event that causes the rest of the dominoes to fall and create the story we now have before us. In this scene Macbeth and Banquo encounter the 3 mischievous witches, who tell them their future.
As people read literature, it can pose many benefits to them by offering help in their lives. One of these benefits is that it warns people about hubris and teaches them to happy with what they have in life and not sad about what they don’t. There are some classic writings, such as Harrison Bergeron, by Kurt Vonnegut, and Macbeth, by Shakespeare, which are prime examples of pieces of literature which have subliminal messages warning us to not be over ambitious. There are also contemporary writings, specifically an article about Trump, by Callum Borchers, which give us examples of present day people who are being affected by their own ego. When people read others writing, whether it is contemporary or classic literature, they are taught about how it is human nature to always want more than they currently have and the dangers that can arise from not being humble, which helps shape their identity and can be used as a guide throughout life.
4. The character of Lady Macbeth changes from act one to act three. Throughout the first act, Lady Macbeth outwardly shows her cruelty but in the third act, she acts calmer. 5. As soon as Lady Macbeth finds out that Duncan, the king of Scotland, is coming to their castle, she acts crazy, wants to be “[unsexed] and [filled] from the crown to the toe topfull of direst cruelty” since her husband has received a prophecy that he will become king (Shakespeare 1.5.40-41).
On October 1, 2016, I went to see a production of Macbeth, a famous play written by William Shakespeare. This particular production of Macbeth was directed by Geoffrey Wilson and was performed at the Lincoln Theatre. After having read the play for the class, I was curious as to how certain aspects of the play would be produced on stage; such as when “Birnam wood moves to Dunsinane” as well as the final fight between Macbeth and Macduff. This adaption of Macbeth met my expectations in certain areas but fell short in other aspects. The use of props, the composition of actors, and the amount of female characters in the play allowed the audience to experience Macbeth in a unique way.
“Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires”. (Act 1 scene 4) This quote means when Macbeth decided whether or not to kill the king so he can become king himself. In this essay I will be talking about how I believe Macbeth is a tragedy of character, how Macbeth launches an element of fantasy from the witches and how the witches played a giant role.

Villain, a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot. Just like the definition of villain states, they show traits just like macbeth. In Shakespeare 's “ The Tragedy of Macbeth”, the character Macbeth is displayed as the villain throughout the play. Macbeth shows the readers that his amiton gets in the way and makes him do things that are considered “evil” until the end of the play. Macbeth is thinking to himself that it is not fair that Duncan 's kids will become king so he kills Duncan and has his sons flee.
