I arrived at Hospice around 0750. I gave the name of our contact, and she showed me where I needed to go. There was a little confusion with who I was going to go with, so I waited outside the office until they were able to figure it out. I ended up getting placed with a lady named Judy and she was very helpful throughout the day. We sat in her office until nine and she just asked me questions about myself, like where I was from and what kind of nursing I was interested in going into. At nine, the social worker came into her office and we left with her to go to our first patient. Our first patient was a male suffering from CHF with an ejection fraction of 15%. His wife answered the door and was his main care giver. He was somebody who joked around but didn’t really want to take his diagnosis seriously. Judy said his wife was ready for him to die but he was not ready yet. Judy also had mentioned that this was his second time in Hospice. He was admitted four years ago, but got well from natural therapies. This time was not going as well, though. We left there and headed on to the next patient. This was a very sweet patient that had dementia. He was taken care of by his mother and sons. He also had a CNA that came in there every other day. At lunch they talked to me about a lot of different situations they encountered and so I got to get the view from both the nurse and the social worker. One situation that was mentioned from the social worker background was that there was this family who was living in a unsafe trailer trailer house where the floor was literally falling through. She had to deal with the fact of trying to find a place that was safer. On the nurse 's side, it was not safe to send nurses in there because of the conditions so they had to find ways around that.
