A decade from now I see myself in eastern Congo starting up a non-governmental organization. Personally, I have contemplated going into politics and working from “within the system,” however, I feel I could accomplish more if I created an international non-governmental organization that focuses on education. I believe that education will change our planet. That's why I firmly believe that higher education should be a universal human right. Humanity can only progress if people get educated. I choose Congo as a starting place because I have an affinity with Congolese history. Ever since I learned about Patricio Lumumba the first prime minister of Congo, a revolutionary, anti-imperialist, and pan-Africanist; I became fascinated by Congo. I chose this because having a career in computer science would allow me to work from anywhere in the world as long as I have a laptop and wifi. Since I have lived a lot of my life abroad in countries like Bolivia, Perú, Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, Honduras, etc. I have an affinity for living abroad and after I graduate from the University of Oregon, I would use the skills obtained from university to create a non-governmental organization in my home country, Bolivia, and in East Africa. This is why I have chosen to learn French because there are 21 francophone nations in Africa, whose people I wish to communicate with. As I have seen time after time, people unnecessarily suffer because of a lack of education. A population of uneducated people is easy to control and deceive, thus more people tend to suffer.
