Introduction
Paul Bernardo also known as Paul Jason Teadle was born on the 17th of August, 1964 in Scarborough, Ontario to the family of Mr. Kenneth Bernardo and Mrs. Marilyn Bernardo. He grew up living with his parents in Scarborough and he attended University of Toronto-Scarborough from 1982 and later worked for an American company called Amway that was into marketing of health, beauty and home care products. In October 1987 Paul Bernardo met Karla Homolka that he later married in June 1991. Paul Bernardo is known till date as the most notorious Canadian serial rapist and murderer, who is commonly referred to as the Scarborough rapist for the several kidnapping, murders and rapes that he commited with his wife, Karla Homolka. It was in May 1990 when a victim was able to give the Police a description of what the offender looked like, and the forensic serology and odontology methods were used to generate computer composite portrait of the rapist which was published in newspapers, thereafter Paul Bernardo was first identified along with some other suspects. Paul was interviewed by the police, he convinced them he was not responsible, but according to follow procedure the police collected Paul’s samples of hair, blood and saliva for DNA testing. They also collected similar samples from over 130 other suspects for DNA to see if there would be a match. This type of forensic science was new in Canada and the Center of Forensic Science in Toronto had only one qualified technician and scientist.
