Paul Fisher is a 12 year old little kid who moves from Houston to Florida. He wasn’t very popular due to the glasses he had to wear. Paul was also known as ‘eclipse boy’ because he got blind from looking at an eclipse and also his brother Erik has something to do with it. This move helps Paul get away from his past and make new friends. Paul is also obsessed with zombies and his old house reminded him of one, but paul has much more important things in mind. Soccer. Even though Paul looks really nerdy, he has amazing goalie skills. His parents don’t really notice him because his big brother Erik is a football star. Football beats soccer in his family. Time passes and Paul attends school. One day Paul’s school is sucked up by a huge sinkhole. His parents decide to take him to the school across town. Many kids suffer from their family not working out. It’s a hard thing to overcome if you’re family doesn’t support you.
Also, many people don’t really know who they are or where they belong in society. They spend their entire lives trying to figure out who they are like Paul did.
People’s past also haunt them like it did for Paul. They don’t want people to remember it because they don’t want to be reminded. They struggle their entire life just to forget their past.
“I have special goggles for playing sports. They’re made of some kind of astronaut plastic that could crash land on Venus and not break”. (Page 42) Paul is saying his goggles mean something to him. It has secrets and is very strong.
“You’re the best seventh-grade, four eyed martian goalie in the entire county”. (Page 83) Gino tells this to Paul to show his appreciation of how far Paul has come. He finally fits in for once in his life.
