Without a doubt change in the world is something everyone notices and will experience sometime throughout their life. A war veteran and family friend of mine by the name of Paul has indisputably noticed more of these changes than most. A few of these differences in the world that I will be further discussing are the changes in technology, prices, military technology and changes in societal norms amongst other things. These changes will be conversed throughout three separate sections; Pauls’ childhood up until he was an adult, His years as an adult in the military up until his life today and lastly, his opinions regarding the worst and best changes in this world. In fact, the milkman around this time period of the 1940’s would be delivering milk door to door in a horse-drawn cart which eventually, would end up enhancing to an electric milk truck and then change again to milk not being delivered door to door at all. The next few differences he can recall from is childhood are that most people were not able to afford refrigerators until the 1960’s and the first phone that was easily accessible to the public was the rotary phone in the 1950’s while most people today have a push button phone or smartphone. In Pauls’ recollection, the bill for the phone was drastically cheaper than it is today as well, at only two dollars a month for a party line and about four dollars a month for a private line. Then, he also had specified that his family had obtained their first black and white television in the early 1950’s but soon traded that out for the newly developed colored television in the early 1960’s. With all things considered, it is clear that he happens to believe there happen to be way more negative changes that have happened than positive ones. To begin, he believes that it is a very bad concept that we use credit cards and machines instead of just using tangible cash because machines always cause problems and cash is more direct and simplified. This leads to his next point where he told me he believes that technology has become the downfall of humanity and everyone seems to have such a bad addiction to technology, especially children, that it impedes the development of social skills and abilities. The last negative change that Paul quoted was that the world is overpopulated and as a result we are draining resources faster than we can replenish them. In contrast, he finally orated that the only positive changes he has witnessed in todays’ world is that science has enhanced and improved things such as vaccinations, along with genetically engineering organisms and food. Those were his thoughts on positive and negative modifications in the world that we happen to live in
