Attack. The. What does that word mean? An attack can be defined as a vicious act against someone or something that leaves a hostile impact on a nation's people, and economy. The attack on Pearl Harbor went down in history as arguably the United States' most devastating attack, because of the unpreparedness and uncertainty of what was to come. Not only did Japanese bomber planes take the loss of cherished human lives, they destroyed the naval base and left the state of Hawaii in destruction which caused the government to take a large step – destroying the economy further while paying for reparations and war costs. The production of household items was put on pause for the war to organize war weaponry to get back at Japan for their targeted attack on the United States. After President Roosevelt and the government declared war on Japan, millions of men were called to battle which unfortunately led to the great loss of jobs, the shutdown of many large production industries, and the end of small businesses as the United States knew it from that time. Due to this, it is fair to claim that the poor economy in America was highly responsible for the slow recovery after the attack on Pearl Harbor due to the previously existing debt, the draft for World War II, and the priority of produced goods.
