One person can have a huge impact on an individual’s life. Peekay had a lot of ups and downs in his life, and people who came into his life at certain points to influence those moments. The Judge was not the most obvious, but he helped Peekay make decisions later in life. Peekay learned a lot of life lessons from Doc, and learned a different perspective of life from Granpa Chook. Without those people, Peekay would not be the same person he came to be by the end of the book. He became wise at the age of only five, and only grew smarter over time. Peekay came across many bad experiences in his life, but he took away only the best from the people involved. Granpa Chook was fearless in the eyes of danger, even in the last moments of his life. “In the tree high above the Judge, Granpa Chook’s anus opened, and from it dropped a perfect bomb of green and white chicken shit, straight into the Judge’s open mouth” (47). Granpa Chook risked his life only to help out Peekay. When Peekay was being tortured, Granpa Chook made a fool of the boy doing it. He ended up losing his life for his actions, but he was selfless and stood up for his best friend. Peekay similarly tries to be more fearless when he is faced with tough tasks. Going into his second boarding school, he decided that nothing could scare him anymore, and he became daring like Granpa Chook. “Finally it became clear that the toughest damn chicken in the whole wide world had no intention of deserting his friend, even if his own life was at stake” (28). This quote ties into the one above. They both show that Granpa Chook was just as daring as he was a good friend. When times got rough, he had a chance to survive, but he chose to keep coming back and not leave his friend. When Peekay made friends later on in life, Granpa Chook served as an exemplary friend. When Peekay was going through the roughest moments of his life, Granpa Chook chose the hard route, and helped him out. If Peekay needed a reason to be a good friend, he could look back and realize that Granpa Chook was a great friend, and more people need friends like that. Once he died, Peekay knew that he had to honor him by being fearless in the actions of helping others. Granpa Chook caused Peekay to realize what being a faithful friend looked
