That night, back in Heaven, all the angels had gathered for harp practice. After about fifteen minutes, the little angles began to squirm in their seats. They were thinking about poor Peewee without a home, and there was only one more day before Christmas. Sherman kept plunking the wrong strings. Mugsie missed his cue to play. And Topsie was so nervous that she fell off her chair. God could not hide a smile, but He knew why they were upset. “All little angels are permitted to leave harp practice early,” He said in a loud voice. “She wants one very much. I would like you to visit her and see if you think Peewee will like her. Will you do that for me?” He pointed to a city on the map. It was the one they had forgotten. Each little angel breathed a sigh. This was exactly what they needed. One day left before Christmas. And since the angels sang in the heavens on Christmas Eve, they had to find Peewee’s home tomorrow and be back in Heaven by tomorrow night. The little angels would make this trip to Earth together. They slipped their maps into their pockets, tested their wings, and off they flew to Earth and the forgotten city. It took them all night to get there. They finally arrived in the city where Maggie lived, the young girl who sent the prayer to God. As they flew near her neighborhood, hundreds of red and green and yellow lights sparkled from all the Christmas decorations on the houses. “Ooh, this is a cheerful place,” said Mugsie. “And I bet there are lots of children,” said Topsie. “I’m sure it’s a nice place to raise kittens, too,” said Sherman in his most grown-up angel voice.
